History

The Bear Creek Community Center, at 3055 Bear Creek Drive in Bear Creek Park, opened in 1986. A Bear Creek senior citizens' group formed in 1982 and started a campaign to raise money. A grant of $320,000 came from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and $118,000 came from county park bonds. Bob Eckels, Precinct 3 Commissioner at the time, said the seniors' group deserved an important share of the credit for getting the community center built. The seniors' group was originally named Life Enrichment. The name was later changed to Bear Creek Senior Citizens.
