Harris County bought 24 acres on Old Washington Road at Hockley in 1982 as the
site for a maintenance center and community center. The Precinct 3 Commissioner
at the time was the late Bob Eckels. He obtained a grant from the U.S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Hockley Community Center was
designed by Hermes Reed Hindman – Architects, Inc. The contractor was AIA
Engineers and Contractors, Inc. The structure was completed in 1986. The address
is 28515 Old Washington Road.
