Park History
| Harris County acquired the acreage here
in 1994 for flood control purposes. It is at the headwaters of Bear
Creek. Commissioner Radack decided to make most of it a park.
The park includes flood water detention ponds and will include a chain of
lakes, trails, and blinds to accommodate the birdwatchers who've long been
attracted to the Katy prairie. Wild geese and many migrating smaller
birds frequent the area.
Paul D. Rushing Park was named for the engineer who
headed the Precinct Three Engineering Department from 1989 until he
retired in 2002 (see Paul D. Rushing Biography
This park includes playgrounds, a gazebo and a softball complex that is the home of the Katy Girls Softball Association. For more information call 281-496-2177. |
