The Houston Farm and Ranch Club was officially dedicated in 1981. After the idea was proposed by Mr. Dave Morris, Harris County dedicated approximately 450 acres in Addicks Reservoir's Bear Creek Park, for the sole purpose of promoting activities for 4-H kids.
Currently at approximately 2500 members, the Farm and Ranch Club raises tens of thousands of dollars of scholarship funds to be awarded annually to kids who participate in the Harris County Fair and other 4-H and FFA programs.
Sharman's Way, the street leading to the Farm and Ranch Club was named after Mr. Jesse Sharman. A fifth generation Houstonian, Mr. Sharman was a rancher, oilman, Houston Livestock Show committee man, Farm and Ranch Club director and a member of the 100 Club. During the dedication of Jesse Sharman Way, Mr. Sharman was described as the type of person young boy's dream they're going to be and old men wish they could have been.
The Houston Farm and Ranch Club's primary fundraisers are the Law Enforcement Officer's Wild Game Cook-off and the annual Golf Tournament. Other monies are derived from tax deductible membership dues and donations.
The Houston Farm and Ranch's motto is "Preserving the past while improving the future".
