Harris County acquired this 11-acre site from members of the Cloud family in 1975. It had been part of an old cotton farm and the site still had an old house and barn when the County bought it. The Alief area had many cotton farms in the late 1800s and early 1900s. There were two cotton gins in the immediate vicinity in those days. The park was developed by the late Commissioner Bob Eckels with the assistance of the Jaycees, the Gulf Oil Company, and the late Lynn Chesnar, director of the Southwest Houston Chamber of Commerce at the time. The dedication in the early 1980s featured the planting of a tree as a symbol of the friendship among the groups that promoted and developed the park, the amity that the park's name celebrates. Alief Amity Park has a pavilion, covered basketball court, gazebo, two playgrounds, two horseshoe courts, restrooms, picnic tables, and barbecue grills.
